Location: Nanaimo, BC

Compensation: $30.00 – $40.50 / hour (based on experience) + Benefits & RRSP Matching

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

Working closely with a Project Manager, you will play a key role in delivering the premium finishing details that define the Shining Knight Construction brand.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • High-End Finishing: Install paint-grade and stain-grade trim, hang/trim interior and exterior doors, and install architectural hardware.

  • Custom Millwork: Fabricate and install custom cabinetry, built-ins, stair components, and railings.

  • Site Leadership: Supervise, support, and mentor apprentices on-site while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized workspace.

  • Project Tracking: Produce approximately 2,000 hours of on-site carpentry annually, logging hours and providing daily progress updates via Buildertrend.

  • Versatility: Demonstrate skill and interest in other aspects of carpentry, such as premium exterior finishing, when required.

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

We’re looking for candidates with:

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of hands-on carpentry experience (with a heavy focus on finishing).

  • Credentials: Red Seal Certification is considered a strong asset.

  • Specialized Skills: Custom millwork and cabinetry fabrication experience is highly valued.

  • Logistics: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving abstract and reliable transportation to and from local job sites.

  • Tools: Must have a strong work ethic, excellent time management skills, and your own standard hand/power tools for the trade.

“Josh Knight from Shining Knight Construction went out of his way along with his crew to do all the finishing trim, installation of doors, cabinets, balcony’s stairs inside and out, all the vaulted ceilings in T&G fir and fireplace mantels for us. As a team they all worked together and came up to the interior where we lived in a small town to help us out. We have a very large house and still they managed to get all the finishing completed. The quality of their work was perfect. My only recreate is that Josh didn’t build our house.
I hope I can convince him to come back to the interior and build us a smaller house in the future. It’s really refreshing to see a company that is honest, hard working, talented and professional supporting each other like a family all working together as a team.”
